Acclimation Guide

General Fish

  1. Float bags for 10-15 minutes to get them used to the temperature
  2. Open the bags
  3. Add 1-2 oz of water (about a shot glass amount) to the bags every couple of minutes until the water volume in the bags has doubled.
  4. Once doubled, drain half the water from the bag
  5. Continue to add 1-2 oz of water to the bags until the volume doubles again
  6. Now net your fish and add them to your tank! (Discard the water in the bags, don’t add bag water to your tank)

 Sensitive Fish and Invertebrates

(This method will be a bit slower but is best for more sensitive animals)

  1. Float bags for 10-15 minutes to get them used to the temperature
  2. Open the bags and put livestock and the bag water into a bucket or bowl
  3. Start the siphon on your drip acclimator and set it to 3-5 drops per second
  4. Allow the water level in the container to double
  5. Drain out half the water
  6. Allow the water level to double again
  7. Now net your fish and add them to your tank! (Discard the water in the container, don’t add bag water to your tank)

 Tips

  • Turn off the aquarium lights during acclimation and for the rest of the day to reduce stress.
  • Rearrange aquarium decor when adding new fish to aggressive tank mates.
  • Don’t open the bags until you are ready to acclimate, in the event of a delay it is best to leave bags floating in the tank and closed. Turn off the aquarium lights to reduce stress as well.
